#01 夕方帰宅してみると
この度、杉浦藍、益永梢子、箕輪亜希子、渡辺泰子の作家4人で展覧会を企画しました。そして、グループ展開催を第一弾企画とし、Sabbatical Company = 通称サバカンの活動を始めます。安息日を語源とし、専門性を磨く創造的な長期休暇を意味するSabbatical。共にパンを食べる仲間を語源とするCompany。いつでもサバティカルな時間をつくりだすことを目的にした同世代4人による活動名称です。
私たちは1つの物語をテーマに、思考し始めました。本の中の出来事と現実に本を手にとり読む「私」は密接に繋がりをもち、本を閉じたあとも「私たち」の経験に引き継がれます。
物語は、主人公が夕方帰宅すると、部屋に巨大な卵が転がっているという場面から始まります。彼は卵から孵った鳥と契約を交わし、南国に旅立つため養い育て、 飛び方を教え込んでいきます。「僕、こうのとり風の鳥は、君が魚、蛙、虫でもって、 飛べるようになるまで僕を扶養してくれた場合には、君を僕の背に乗せて南方の国々へ運ぶ義務を負うことを約束する。」文庫本にして、わずか４ページのこの物語は、どこか作品を生み出す状況を連想させました。私たちは会場であるミルクイーストという空間を、作中でいう「部屋の中」に例え、さまざまな手技でもって作品をつくり、春を迎える準備をいたしましょう。そして、「我々の世界」を捉えるための、他者と思考する場として開かれることを目指します。
どんな圧倒的な現実が立ちはだかろうと、私たちの想像力は、見たものからさまざまな連想を始め、それを組み替え、解釈を深めるほかありません。それが例え個人的なものから始まろうと、共有する時間を過ごすことで、さらに現実を捉える術を拡大していくはずです。新しい年の幕開け、サバカン第一弾企画グループ展、皆様ぜひ奮ってご参加ください。

物語世界は1階で行われる展覧会を軸に、ミルクイースト主催のパブナイト—イン・タヴァン・エールハウスでも共有され、初日のオープニングレセプション「サバティカルパブナイト」を皮切りに、毎週金土のパブナイトの開催、そして2月５、６日には京都を中心に活動する劇団ベビー・ピーによるイベント 「南の国へ」へと展開していきます。
#01 exhibition “When I came home in the evening”
“When I came home in the evening” is the first exhibition by “Sabbatical Company”, an artist collective by Ai Sugiura, Shoko Masunaga, Akiko Minowa and Yasuko Watanabe; all of whom are from the same generation. Sabbatical Company is also called its abbreviated form, Sabba-Can [intoned as Saba-kan].
Coming from Sabbath, “Sabbatical” means extended holidays intended to increase and deepen one’s creative inquiry. “Company” originally means friends who share bread. This combination of words reflects our intention to create “sabbatical time” regardless of settings and occasions.
For the exhibition, we selected a novel by Franz Kafka entitled “When I came home in the evening” as the theme, and the members produced works of art based on their own interpretation. The story begins as a protagonist, just returning home in an evening, sees a huge egg lying on the floor in his room. As the story unfolds, he makes a contract with the bird which has hatched from the egg, raises the bird and teaches how to fly to travel to a southern island. “I, a stork-like bird, promise that I will carry you on my back to a southern island if you look after me with fish, frogs and insects until I can fly.” This story, which is only four-page long in paperback, made us imagine a situation in which works of art are produced.
Imagining that the exhibition venue MilkyEast was the room in the story, we created works of art with various techniques and in medium, as it were, preparing for the first flight in the spring. “When I came home in the evening” is our attempt to open up a space for thinking collaboratively, aiming to share the reality each of us perceives, deepen our grasp of the world and expand the imagination.

Alongside the exhibition held at the 1st floor of MilkyEast, The Pub Night - Inn, Tavern, Ale House hosted by MilkyEast featured “Sabbatical Pub Night” for the opening of the exhibition. Throughout the exhibition period, the pub night was held on every Friday and Saturday. We were joined by Kyoto-based theatrical troop Baby Pee’s event “To a southern island” on the 5th and 6th of February.

作家・演出家・俳優の根本コースケを中心とした演劇ユニット。 2002 年旗揚げ。拠点は京都。活動の9 割が野外テントなど劇場外スペースを活用した公演で、題材も公演自体も「祭り」にこだわった作品を毎回上演している。また、アーティスト・山さきあさ彦が製作するぬいぐるみ（山ぐるみ）を使った人形劇、漫画「ジョジョの奇妙な冒険」を再構築した「ジョジョ劇」など、既存の枠組みにとらわれない活動を全国各地のカフェやライブハウスなどで多数上演。2015年、「山ぐるみ人形劇」が愛知人形劇センター主催のＰ新人賞を受賞。http://baby-pee.jimdo.com/

About
パブとはパブリック・ハウスの略称であり、公に開かれた場／公共の家という意味からきます。パブの前身としては、規模の大きな建物は宿泊施設を完備した「イン」と名付けられ、一般民家の二階建規模においては、食事をする「タヴァン」、飲酒をする「エールハウス」などと呼ばれてきました。これらの機能を下地とし、舞台、見世物や賭博なども行なわれてきたパブという場は、人々の生活と関わりながら個人の人間関係をも拡張し、空間自体も変容させてきました。
そんなパブの名を冠する「ミルクイースト パブナイト」。今回は、カフカの短編小説“夕方帰宅してみると”をコンセプトにしたお料理をお楽しみいただけます。今回も厨房はミルク倉庫宮崎が担当。
